Mission:

To develop each Science pupil to be an inquirer, innovator and environmentalist

Vision:

Inculcate in pupils a sense of curiosity and equip them with skills in exploring and discovering such that they aspire to make a positive impact in future.

Introduction

Science in SAJS aligns with primary school syllabus that encompasses the various essential takeaways for the 5 chosen themes of Diversity, Cycles, Systems, Energy and Interactions. We engage pupils in the Practices of Science which consists one of the components of “Ways of Thinking and Doing”. We aim to provide students with Authentic Experiences, Customised boy friendly strategies, with Embedded values the lessons carried out to develop Holistic Thinkers and Skilled Communicators. In our school, we develop the scientific thinking and knowhow through various programmes. 

Programme for the High ability learners 

E2k 

The E2K program is an enrichment program for selected high-ability students in Primary 4 and Primary 5 students.  It aims to foster deeper understanding and critical thinking skills in Science through inquiry-based learning and collaboration. 

Innovation programme (IVP)

The Innovation Programme (IvP), an initiative from MOE Gifted Education branch, provides a unique opportunity for students to develop their problem-solving and inventive skills to create innovative products to solve problems encountered in our daily lives.  

Programmes for every student

IBL (Inquiry Based Learning)

The department uses Inquiry as a basis for extension of their learning. Pupils are encouraged to predict outcomes and conduct hands-on activities and group work to deepen their knowledge of the various concepts.

Environment as the third teacher

Outdoor learning areas have been integrated into the curriculum to bring the classroom to the outdoors and the world into their classrooms. An integrated approach of actively using IT as a means of engaging and deepening understanding concepts in the form of Data loggers and ICT use is widely carried out in the school.

Eco stewardship programme

In line with the SG Green plan, the Eco-Stewardship Programme (ESP) is introduced in schools. In SAJS, our aim is to develop all Saints to be stewards for the environment. 

Hydroponics in Primary 4

Primary 4 students are exposed to growing crops using the hydroponics system. The students were involved in placing the seedlings on the board and allowing the seedlings to grow in nutrient solution over a period of 5 weeks before they harvest the vegetables to be shared with the community such as the Toa Payoh community fridge and some Eldercare Centers.

World Water Day activities

We celebrated our inaugural World water Day in 2025 with a few recess activities. The event highlighted the vital role of water in global stability and prosperity. It also aimed to instill a sense of responsibility within the community regarding water conservation.

Earth Day

SAJS celebrated Earth Day in April and the focus for this year is on appreciating biodiversity. Throughout the week, there were recess activities where we brought in live insects, conduct  games and have an assembly programme on the topic of “Friends of the forest”.
