2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCOV): SAJS Enhanced Precautionary Measures on School Programmes (6 Feb 2020)

6 February 2020

2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCOV): SAJS Enhanced Precautionary Measures on School Programmes (6 Feb 2020)

1. The school cares for the well-being of all our students. In view of the stepped up precautionary measures due to the 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCOV) situation, the school has suspended activities which may involve large gatherings and intermingling of students. With the cancellation of Saints Games Day, 13 March 2020 (Friday) will remain as a normal school day (ending at 3.30 pm). The end of term service will also be held at the end of the day, before dismissal.

2. Currently, Primary 3 to 6 students having supplementary and remedial lessons after school will have lunch together at the canteen. To reduce having a large gathering of students and intermingling of students of different levels, supplementary, remedial and enrichment (e.g. E2K, Mathematics Olympiad, Reading Circles etc) classes from Primary 3 to 6 will be suspended with effect from 10 February 2020 until further notice.

3. Primary 3 and 4 students identified for Reading Remediation Programme (RRP) and School-based Dyslexia Remediation (SDR) Programme instituted by Ministry of Education (MOE) will continue as both programmes are conducted to level up students’ learning through a stipulated curriculum by MOE and this involves only a small group of students.

4. On the same note as point 2, the school has furthered staggered the recess timings for Friday and the adjusted timing is as follows:

o Primary 2 and Primary 5: 8.45 am to 9.10 am

o Primary 1 and Primary 4: 9.10 am to 9.35 am

o Primary 3 and Primary 6: 9.35 am to 10.00 am

Each class will be allocated designated tables in the canteen to reduce the intermingling of students across classes and levels. We also hope that every class will take up the responsibility to keep their tables clean.

5. Minister of Health Mr Gan Kim Yong has shared that school suspension may be a possibility if there is extensive community spread. Hence the school is postponing our Home-based Learning for Primary 5 originally scheduled on 20 February 2020 so that teachers can maximise their face to face teaching time now. Primary 5 students will report to school as per normal on 20 February 2020.

Warmest regards,

Ms Patsy Neo

Principal
